Chapter 5: Eaiz

1st of Enous, 3:00 p.m.

“Give me the Eaiz, man, I’m good for it I’ll pay you back once my job is done.” Rick begged.

“What Job would hire you?” a man in bright clothes asked.

“I am clearing tables tonight at Cuh’zak’s.”

“Then come back when you have been paid.”

Rick was shaking, and nauseous, he knew he would not be able to do his new job without a hit, so he jumped the dealer. He tore at the dealer’s face trying to get to his throat, a chunk of flesh came off torn by his nail. He got his hands around the man’s throat; he began to squeeze. Something cold pressed against Rick’s side but he did not stop, even when a bullet ripped through his side. The pain was nearly crippling, but he knew if he got the eaiz his pain would leave him.

After what felt like an eternity, the dealer lay still, unbreathing. Rick gathered the eaiz and gave himself a shot, then leaning against a wall he allowed himself to drift.

As consciousness returned, he found himself chained to a bed in a sterile, white hospital room where two people were having a barely whispered argument.

“Again, he is marked by Firrulind, just dump him back in the streets to die.”

“He has committed murder and must be tried as is proper.”

“And if he is found in custody? Firrulind knows people much higher up the chain than you or me, he will not take kindly to a tool of his behind bars.”

“I will take the-” he paused, “I believe he is coming to Knock him back out.”
