Lashing Torrents

Lashing torrents stream down wet and cold,

My body shakes I no longer feel bold.

I fled my home to be alone,

“I will not let you break my bones!”

This I said so bravely.

Lashing torrents wash away my tears,

I cry for I fear the coming years.

I stand before the P.D. glued in place,

“If you leave, I’ll kill myself in this space.”

This was said to me, quietly.

Lashing torrents numb every bone,

It has been so long since I’ve been alone

My feet move me to the station,

“You've got nowhere to run I am your bastion.”

This was yelled, angrily.

Lashing torrents revealed the bruise,

What more could I ever lose.

I enter with audio on my phone,

“I’ll hit you again, we are alone.”

This was said, drunkenly.

Lashing torrents hit the window,

Like the night I fled my abusers’ pillow.

I feel my spouse approach from behind,

“Come with me I have something in mind.”

This was said, lovingly.
